WSJ -US new-home sales fell sharply in January

Sales of newly built US homes declined last month, a sign the housing market’s recovery remains uneven.  Purchases of new single-family homes decreased by 9.2% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 494,000 in January, the Commerce Department said Wednesday. It was the lowest pace for sales since October.  Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had expected a January sales pace of 525,000. From a year earlier, sales were down 5.2% in January.

Fla.’s housing market ends 2015 with strong gains

ORLANDO, Fla. – Feb. 10, 2016 – Florida's housing market wrapped up 2015 with more closed sales, more new listings and higher median prices compared to the year before, according to the latest housing data released by Florida Realtors®.
"In the fourth quarter and throughout 2015, we've seen positive signs that Florida's housing sector is growing steadily," said 2016 Florida Realtors®President Matey H. Veissi, broker and co-owner of Veissi & Associates in Miami. "Home prices are rising at a more moderate pace while closed sales remain strong. Florida's economy is in growth mode, more jobs are being created and mortgage interest rates remain at historically low levels, which will continue to drive the state's housing market in 2016."

HUD to honor groups that help low-income residents

WASHINGTON – Feb. 5, 2016 – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Council on Foundations (COF) launched the 2016 HUD Secretary's Award for Public-Philanthropic Partnerships.
HUD and COF are seeking nominations from charitable foundations working with the public sector to improve the neighborhoods and the quality of life for low- and moderate-income residents. The winners of this prestigious HUD Secretary's Award will be presented at COF's 2016 Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. in April.
